Dota 2 announcer volume: settings, mute options, and packs
Find the Dota 2 announcer volume setting, learn what Unit Speech changes, troubleshoot loud voice lines, and compare announcer, mega-kill, and sound packs.
Quick answer
The Dota 2 announcer is currently controlled through the Unit Speech audio setting. Lowering Unit Speech also affects hero and unit voice lines, so it is not a perfect announcer-only mute. Menu labels can change after a patch; test one audio slider at a time in a bot lobby before changing files.

Which Dota 2 setting controls the announcer?
Open Settings, choose Audio, and lower Unit Speech in small steps. Keep Master Volume stable while testing. Current community reports still describe the announcer and hero speech as grouped together, which is why players may not find a dedicated announcer slider.
| Control | Changes | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Unit Speech | Announcer plus hero and unit voices | Voice lines are too loud |
| Game Sounds | Combat and general game audio | Abilities or map sounds are too loud |
| Music | Menu and match music | Music masks voice lines |
| Master Volume | All Dota 2 audio | The whole game is too loud |
How to lower or mute the announcer
For the closest built-in mute, set Unit Speech very low or to zero. If a line remains, confirm whether it is a mega-kill line, chat wheel sound, music cue, or another sound category. Restore default audio settings before troubleshooting a downloaded VPK.
- Take a screenshot of the current Audio settings.
- Lower Unit Speech and test in a bot lobby.
- Trigger ordinary hero speech and an announcer event.
- Identify whether any remaining line belongs to mega-kill or another category.
- Change only one mod or one slider before testing again.
Announcer vs mega-kill vs other sound mods
An announcer pack covers match events, a mega-kill pack focuses on kill streak lines, and general sound replacements may change horns, respawn audio, menus, or other cues. Matching the category to the sound makes rollback easier.
